A new YMCA was built in 2009 in the North Valley. This new Phoenix location at Carefree Highway and 60th street was encouraged by the community. Kiwanis of Carefree wanted to help on this project and many individual Kiwanis members supported the construction of this new facility.

Kiwanis was a fortunate beneficiary of a large donation from the William Scully Trust at this same time. The Kiwanis Foundation decided to use part of those proceeds to sponsor the “Kids Room” at the Y. Parents can leave their children in a safe location at the Y when they are attending the many services offered at the Y. A parent can exercise knowing that their child is in a supervised environment with trained staff while they take time to attend a class or to exercise on their own.

The Kiwanis of Carefree Benefit Foundation donated $230,000 toward this new project. Supporting a project for children was exiting for the Foundation Board. This is because most of our funds are directed to projects that benefit children.

This room has indoor activities for the children and an outdoor play area that is secured and staffed by Y trained volunteers.
